Frequently asked questions.

Is this just Freeze-Dried Food?

Yes and no. Yes, each Out-Pak contains a freeze-dried main dish, but they’re meal packages, which means that they contain an assortment of pre-packaged, ready-to-eat snacks and sides alongside the main dishes. For example, our Garlic Mushroom Pasta Pak also includes white bean soup, dried papaya, edamame beans, a protein bar, gummy bears and a bite of dark chocolate. The end result is enough for a sit-down meal and plenty to eat along the trail throughout the day.

What’s up with the wax?

We dip our tubes in beeswax, which serves as a natural sealant, keeping the contents safe from the elements. It looks a little messy—we know—but we made the decision to compromise on the visual impact in order to cut down on the plastics that we use in our packaging. Beeswax is all-natural and biodegradable, so it spends less time breaking down in our landfills.

Is the Tube hard to pack?

While our tubes are not the traditional shape of camping meals, you’ll find that the space that each calorie takes up is comparable to other brands. Leading brands of camping meals typically contain 500 calories per serving while our Out-Paks, containing bonus snacks and drink mixes, contain around 1500 calories per serving. Furthermore, while they are slightly heavier than plastic-based packaging, we’re willing to add some weight for a more sustainable and eco-friendly product.

What are these texts on the back of my nutrition facts?

In an effort to instill a sense of wonder at the natural world, we hired a conservationist to write us a few brief articles about ecology and critters. It’s a nice way to learn something new while you’re out on the trail (the leaflet also makes for good tinder while you’re at it). You can check out the sources for them here.

Where can I buy your camping meals?

Right here online! Or keep an eye on our social media pages for news about events that we’ll be making appearances at.

How can I see what’s coming up next?

We’re always looking for field testers for our prototypes in anyone who spends their days outdoors—from backpackers to kayakers and cyclists to van-lifers. If you’re interested in taking our products into the field to give us feedback, you can fill out our field tester application here.
